Fighting Fires by Air

We visited Butler Aircraft in August 2004, located at Roberts Field in Redmond, OR. Butler is a full-service FBO, as well as an indepdent fire-fighting aircraft operator. We saw several Butler DC-7's and an out-of-service C-130 on the field.  They operate a total of three DC-7 tankers.

Special thanks to Rick Langston, co-pilot of Tanker 66, one of Butler's active DC-7's, who gave us an amazing tour of the plane and the facilities.

Caveat: notes are from memory, and I may have some of the details incorrect. Feel free to send me email if you find errors.

By the way, if you want to see more great pictures of these aircraft in action, take a look at Photos on www.butleraircraft.com.

See also, Heather's write up on Butler Aircraft for Flyguides.com.

Late note: Butler will give groups tours of the facilities if you call ahead and set it up.

Last update: bkm - Sept 3, 2004 - added a few corrections from Rick (thanks!)
